Tzompantli

$175.00

Tzompantli is Nahuatl for skull rack/platform, and were common in many Meso American culturas. Tzompantlis were used to publicly display human skulls, typically of war captives or other sacrificial offerings. For the Aztecs, death was viewed as a natural part of life and was worth celebrating. Human sacrifices was a way to nourish the gods, and doing so was a way to guarantee that the sun would rise, the crops would grow and the world would continue to exist. 💀 💀 💀🌎

*Tzompantli is a print that was created as my annual 2022 Día de muertos prints. So yes, it’s literally fresh off the press.

The design was sketched and carved by hand, then printed with traditional oil based printmaking ink onto 100% cotton, acid free paper. Each piece will be titled, signed and labeled as an Edition out of 18.

*This block is printed on white Canson edition paper, 250gsm.

Each print is produced using a manual printing press, therefore, each print will be unique and may differ slightly from the pictured original. This is the beauty of linoleum block printing.
