Twining

$500.00

Did you know that Yakima produces ~75% of the nation’s hops?

The new Twining revamped reduction print with color is inspired by the dedicated and hardworking hop workers in the Yakima Valley, This piece captures a hop worker tying new strings on the top of the trellis and then securing them into the soil. Each year’s string is cut down along with the plant during harvest, necessitating a new string to be hung annually. You will notice the remnants of previous years’ strings all along the tops of trellisses. This process could be done using a topcutter or by using a machete. The design was sketched and carved by hand, then printed with traditional oil based printmaking ink onto 100% cotton, acid free paper. Each piece within this edition of 27 prints is numbered, titled and signed.

The central image of the print is printed onto japanese kitikata paper, and is then collaged onto the cotton paper.

Each print is produced using a manual printing press, and the prints print will be unique and may differ slightly from the pictured original. This is the beauty of relief block printing. The hops on are all individually hand painted with watercolor.
