“Picking Cherries”

Climate change is a humanitarian crisis—disproportionately affecting marginalized communities of color—including those who harvest our food.

Though this summer has been one of the hottest years recorded in the Yakima Valley and the Pacific NW, many of the nation’s crops still needed to be harvested and tended to—resulting in deaths due to the severe weather conditions.

This piece was inspired by las mujeres trabajadoras quienes suben, bajan y navegan el crisis del medio ambiente mientras pizcan el fruto de la nación.

These workers have always played a vital role in our country and now more than ever, eyes need to be opened, ears need to listen and their voices need to be heard- conversations need to get started about their safety and wellbeing.

This piece is part of the “Essential Workers,” series.

The design was sketched and carved by hand, then printed with traditional oil based printmaking ink onto 100% cotton, acid free paper. Each piece will be titled, signed and labeled as an Edition of 22.

*Each print (the cherries) will be individually hand painted with gouache paint before shipment.

Each print is produced using a manual printing press, therefore, each print will be unique and may differ slightly from the pictured original. This is the beauty of linoleum block printing.
